ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

OLAP / Hyperion Essbase & Applix TM1

• Cut two full days from HP Consulting’s monthly financial close cycle by creating a consolidated global financial Hyperion Essbase cube with regional data capture. I was the primary analyst, architect, designer and technical leader of the implementation team. Wrote outline, ETL (extract, transform & load data) scripts, load rules, calc scripts, user acceptance tests, and user training materials. Supported spreadsheet add-in clients and multiple reporting interfaces. This was the global controller’s first drill-down view into the regional details that comprised his business.
  
• Managed all outlines, ETL scripts, load rules and calc scripts for two separate global cubes in HP Consulting. Leveraged the outline from the financial reporting system to cut two months from development time of the consulting engagement management system.
  
• Individually developed and maintained organizational outlines which supported both current-state reporting and historical reporting over multiple corporate reorganizations.
  

RDBMS / Oracle and other relational databases

• Upgraded HP’s global company-wide general ledger data warehouse. Managed migration of data, reports, interfaces, maintenance procedures and fiscal year-end procedures. Facilitated on-time generation of financial statements and tax returns from new system, while ensuring perfect data integrity with historic system. Met all legal and regulatory compliance requirements, including IRS and SEC.
  
• Maintained and enhanced Oracle data warehouse supporting Agilent’s employee stock option benefit system. Created offline databases and ETL scripts, enabling data migration for two large corporate acquisitions and one large divestiture. Saved $5,000 in data entry effort. Individually responsible for data integrity.
  

Business Analysis

• Realized dramatic improvement in HP’s internal network management by creating more effective network traffic reports. Invented and tested network congestion hypotheses together with network engineers, determined key statistics, and designed a system to pre-calculate and store those key statistics, which led to a 90% reduction in time required to produce network traffic reports.
  
• Cut two weeks out of implementation time by including multi-functional participation at earlier phase of vendor outsourcing process for Agilent’s employee retirement benefits.
  

Finance

• Reduced HP’s monthly financial close cycle by one full day across the entire company, by replacing the world-wide general ledger application. Completed replacement general ledger application on-time and on-budget in multi-functional, geographically dispersed implementation team.
  
• Closed the global financial books on time every month during phased development of an Essbase finance cube for HP Consulting, while providing 24 x 7 support of financial close activities at global and multiple regional levels.
  

Communication

• Researched and revised the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) for Agilent’s stock option administration system. Uncovered incorrect procedures which prevented restoration of the database from backup tapes. Analyzed the problem, fixed procedures, tested the revised DRP, and restored the database. This allowed the department to pass an internal audit as well as preparing for an actual disaster.
  
• Created and delivered training curriculum for outsourced 24 x 7 helpdesk personnel to use internally developed calling card administration system. Authored application reference manual, training documents, and online help content.
  

Software Engineering

• Created administration system for HP’s employee calling cards. Reduced department’s intra-corporate billing transactions by 25% and reduced administration effort by 50%, allowing redeployment of two full-time positions.
  
• Designed and implemented a batch job monitoring system which was in continuous daily use for five years with no failures, no revisions, and no enhancement requests. Saved $40k/year in engineer time checking job status.
  

Project Management

• Saved HP $300k/year by gracefully decommissioning old general ledger system after migrating to replacement system. Ensured legal and regulatory compliance as well as data integrity between old and new systems.
  
• Managed creation of a source code version control library for HP’s Corporate Financial Reporting department. Individually recognized need, championed the idea, gained management approval, researched tools, selected “rcs”, implemented library, added source code, and trained other developers on check-out and check-in procedures.
